SPECTACULAR KITE FESTIVAL COMING TO CHERRY VALLEY

On Saturday, September 30th Cherry Valley Artworks, in association with world famous kite artist George Peters of Boulder, Colorado, will present the first Cherry Valley International Kite Festival. More than twenty of the top kite fliers and kite makers from the USA and Canada, many National Champions in their fields, will fill the skies over Cherry Valley with their spectacular creations. There will be kites of every description from 100 ft. long fantasy creatures to the tiniest of miniatures, from sport kites to fighter kites, art kites, even indoor kites.

The day will begin at 10.00 AM with a Kid’s Kite building workshop at the Old School Community Center given by Archie Stewart of Massachusetts who has presented this “stealth learning” experience in schools all over the country. Archie says his workshop is for kids from 8 to eighty. The workshop will take participants on a world tour visiting various cultures and exploring how kites have been used from ancient times through the NASA Space Program. The kids will build their own kites that are capable of both indoor and outdoor flight. The program will end with an indoor kite ballet followed by a mass ascension of the children’s kites. Admission is $5.00 and includes all materials.

The main outdoor kite fly will take place from 10.30 to 5.30 in a beautiful field on Campbell Road that is part of Glensfoot Farm, a 200-year old dairy farm. The field offers magnificent views of historic Cherry Valley and the surrounding hills. Parking is free on site and at various lots around town. Transportation to the field is available by bus or by hay-ride though the farm fields. Expect a full day of food, fun and surprises! $3.00 admission includes transportation and/or parking. Children under 10 free. Bring you own kite and join the fun!

Saturday evening at 8.00 PM the National Champion High Flyers Flight Team, who have performed at such venues as the Tribeca Film Festival and the Newport Jazz Festival, will present their spectacular indoor kite show set to music in the gym of the Cherry Valley-Springfield School

Doors open at 7.30. Admission $3.00.
