Experience the Power of History at Work at Hanford Mills Museum’s Special Events and Family Workshops
Every day is special at Hanford Mills Museum, but the interactive activities, historic demonstrations and unique presentations offered during the Museum’s special events and workshops make a visit during one of these programs a great way to experience the “power of history at work.” Whether your attend a special event, participate in a workshop, or decide just to visit, you’ll be awed as you watch the Mighty 1926 Fitz overshot waterwheel bring the Mill to life. Whenever you come, plan to tour the mill buildings and see demonstrations of the sawmill and other mill machines, visit the John Hanford Farmhouse and a dozen other historic buildings, picnic beside the millpond, and explore the nature and rail trails that wind through the Museum’s 70-acre site.
24th Annual Antique Engine Jamboree
September 9-10, 10:00am-5:00pm
Don’t miss this chance to see old time engines of all shapes, sizes and power at work, and to celebrate antique gas & steam power at Hanford Mills Museum. View scores of antique engines throughout the site - dozens will be running and “doing” things! Visit the Museum's steam boiler and watch the steam engine power the mill. Let the whirl, putt and purr of over 100 working antique engines transport you back to the early twentieth century at Hanford Mill’s 24th annual Antique Engine Jamboree & Steam Power Celebration. Collectors from around the region will display vintage engines, tractors, autos, steam engines and more. These machines grind corn, pump water, pull loads and even wash clothes! The event will also feature several small engines from the Museum’s collection and steam power generated by a recreation of the Hanford’s late nineteenth century “live” steam power plant. The event will also feature a daily workshop on “Getting into the Antique Engine Hobby.”
Millers Harvest Festival
October 8, 10:00am-5:00pm
Celebrate ingenuity and industriousness, and explore the skill of craftspeople and farmers at work. The Museum will be running its steam engine, plus other industrial and agricultural related machinery. Hanford Mills Museum celebrates the ingenuity of millers, and other country “mechanics” – traditionally a person whose occupation is to construct… goods, wares, instruments and the like. The event features interactive demonstrations of traditional crafts and trades, and many of the artisans will sell their wares. Enjoy live music, good food and activities honoring the resourcefulness of artisans who create useful and practical things with traditional methods, materials and tools. The Miller’s Harvest Festival will also feature the Museum’s annual Historic Textile and Quilt Show in the Hanford Farm House, and families and kids will enjoy a variety of seasonal and traditional hands-on activities.
